The game of comparisons is crippling relationships in marriages, families and churches. No child wants to be measured their worth or competence against their siblings. No woman wants her husband to compare her with other women. Worse still no man wants his wife to compare him with other men. What of men and women of God? Do they enjoy to be compared with other men and women of God? The clear-cut answer is NO, NO NO. The game of comparisons seems to be going unchallenged among Church folks. People are at liberty to evaluate them, analyse them and compare them. Paul had to struggle to explain why it was not necessary for Church folks at Corinth to either align with him or Apollos. He uses Agricultural terminology when he says: Paul planted, Apollos watered and God caused the Church to grow. Men and women of God among us are God’s tools he uses to accomplish his purpose. Remember that IT WAS HE who made some to be Apostles, some Prophets, some Evangelists and some to be Pastors and Teachers. These five-fold ministries are not there to compete against each other but to complement each other. So here goes the 11th commandment: THOU SHALT NOT COMPARE GOD’S TOOLS.
THOU SHALT NOT COMPARE GOD’S TOOLS (1 Corinthians 3:5-9)
