THE POWER OF SMART RESPONSE

22 Apr

Life is characterised by happenings from your mother’s womb to the tomb. Some happenings impact us positively, leading us to celebrate life. Other happenings impact us negatively leaving us discouraged, disheartened, disappointed and all other Ds you may want to add. As long as we are mortal beings living among mortals, happenings both positive and negative are unavoidable. I am of the opinion that our response to what happens is more important than what happens. You may have no control over what happens to you but you have control over how you respond or react to what happens to you. You could have been messed up big time but what matters is your response to that happening. Every human being is endowed with the power of smart response. Out of every happening there is a response. From a psychological point of view this is called STIMULUS-RESPONSE. Could it be that the measure of Christian maturity is not about speaking in tongues of men and angels but is reflected in how we smartly respond to things that happen to us especially negative ones? Check out these smart responses from Bible characters:
# David in the face of Giant Goliath: You come to me with sword and spear, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts whom you are defying
# Job after losing his children, his wealth and his health: Even though he slay me, yet will I trust him
# Apostle Paul under trial before King Agrippa concerning his faith: I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision
# Joseph after having suffered because of being betrayed by his brothers: You meant for evil but God meant it for good that I may save nations from starvation
# Peter and John after being beaten up and then warned not preach Jesus: Judge before us, should we obey man or God as for us we would rather obey God hence they continued to preach as usual
# Our Lord Jesus Christ while enduring the pain of the cross: Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing
