THE BARREN SHALL REJOICE: FEMALE VOICES OF ANGUISH (Isaiah 54:1-7)

07 Jul

Barrenness or childlessness was viewed as a grave misfortune in the Jewish culture. This view is also embraced in various modern cultures and communities hence stigmatisation of barren women. Some go to the extent of mocking infertile women thus cause social and emotional stress upon them. Having children defined a woman’s stature and worth in society. The Bible is awash with female voices of anguish. These are women who struggled with the anguish and pain of being dehumanised and stigmatised by society for being childless. Isaiah is equating the suffering of the people of Israel in Babylonian captivity like the anguish of a barren woman. He encourages barren Israel to celebrate in advance her upcoming reunion with her God, culminating in deliverance from captivity and leading to multiple birthing. In preparation of the new era in the future, Israel is to do the following whilst she is still barren. 1) Enlarge the place of your tent. 2) Stretch your tent curtains wide. 3) Lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. This is about territorial enlargement for your future progeny while you are still barren. In modern language its like a woman who goes to organise a baby shower before she is even pregnant. I have a spiritual conviction that the BARREN SHALL REJOICE. You might be going through a season of spiritual or physical barrenness, but its your turn now to rejoice because God is about to remember you. Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. Just as the Lord visited every female voice of anguish in the Bible and they became pregnant, I declare that your visitation is in the horizon. Check out the following barren women whom God visited:
# God visited Sarah and she became pregnant and gave birth to ISAAC
# God visited Rebekah and she became pregnant and gave birth to JACOB & ISAU
# God visited Rachel and she became pregnant and gave birth to JOSEPH
# God visited Hannah and she became pregnant and gave birth to SAMUEL
# God visited Manoah’s wife and she became pregnant and gave birth to SAMSON
# God visited Elizabeth and she became pregnant and gave birth to JOHN THE BAPTIST.
May God’s visitation propel you into the QUIVER-FULL OR FULL-HOUSE DIMENSION of God’s blessings. BARRENNESS IS NOT YOUR PORTION
