JUST A TWEAK IS GOOD FOR YOU (Genesis 32:22-26)

The story of Jacob is testimony that God has an unfinished business with every human being on earth. God specialises in tweaking some things in his children so that they become better people and more useful for his Kingdom. The tweaking process is whereby God works in us before he works through us. A lot of Christians are more interested in God working through them before he works in them. It took the Israelites forty years of tweaking in the wilderness before they possessed their possessions. In the process of going out of Egypt, GOD WORKED FOR THEM. In the wilderness, GOD WORKED IN THEM. In conquering the land of Canaan, GOD WORKED THROUGH THEM. Typical of all human beings, we want the God who works for us and through us and not the God who works in us.
Jacob was a supplanter, a trick star and a cheat who got what he wanted by hook and crook. He stole his brother’s birthright and blessing. He cheated his uncle Laban through colour games on his livestock. But the time came when he had to go back to the promised land where he had to face his brother after so many years in diaspora. Thus we find him at the Jabbok river where he makes his family and possessions cross over and he remained alone worried with the thought of how he was going to meet his brother Isau. He was not sure what his reaction was going to be especially when he had heard that his brother was going to meet him in the company of four hundred men.
When God wants to tweak some things in our lives, he makes sure that he confronts us alone. Jacob wrestled with the angel of the Lord in an act of desperation which only God could deal with. God in his sovereignty tweaked Jacob’s hip leaving him limping for the rest of his life. This was to ensure that he depended on God for protection when he would eventually meet his brother Isau. To tweak means to twist, to tug, to pull, to twitch, to modify, to alter, to squeeze, to adjust, to adapt or to fine-tune. Could it be that God wants to tweak some temper issues in your life? God wants to tweak attitude issues in your life. God wants to tweak some social and moral issues in your life. God wants to tweak some uncouth language in your life. God wants to tweak some relational issues in your life. Just a tweak is good for you. God wants to fine-tune you thus make an improved version of you. He is the God of unfinished business. He is a TWEAK, TWEAK GOD. Philippians 1:6 says, ‘Being confident of this that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion’. Tweaking is part of his refining program.
